eScape Settings Converter

Just a simple tool I built for converting Wizard settings to a format which eScape can import. Each character profile in the Wizard is composed of 7 profile-specific files and one file (names.his) that is used by all profiles. If you name your profiles after your characters, then simply look for a batch of 7 files with your character's name and the file extensions of .dat, .color, .his, .sou, .nam, .mac, and .squ in the Simu/Wizard/DRealms folder.

Paste the contents of each file requested below in the appropriate window and click the Convert! button when finished. A proper eScape XML file will be constructed and placed in the top window. Export your settings from eScape, then open the XML file it creates with Word or WordPad (latter is usually included free with a copy of Windows), do NOT use Notepad, it may corrupt the format. Delete everything in that file and paste in what you copied from here. Save the modified XML file then go back to eScape and import it. Voila! All your settings should now be set for you.

Note: because of how eScape works, you can't set a sound string without also giving it a highlight color (no separate sounds list like the Wizard has) so this tool does what eScape won't allow you to do when entering new highlights using the editor: it assigns the strings a highlight color of "transparent" which fools eScape into using whatever your current font color is.

Another problem with eScape is it doesn't support multiple hotkey sets. This tool defaults to only importing hotkey set #1 or, if there is no set #1 defined, the first set located in the MAC file.

Warning! I have not yet built significant error-checking into this page so make sure you paste the right files to the right windows and paste the WHOLE contents of each file (no partial lines). Failing to do so will likely result in a corrupted XML file and I have no idea what that might do to your eScape settings. I recommend before you do anything, make a backup copy of the export file (escape.xml, unless you changed the default setting when you exported) just in case.

Include ordinal keys (ctrl-1 = "first ", etc)
Sounds filepath:
