Genie Settings Converter

This tool was built for converting Wizard settings to a format which makes it easy to add them to your Genie setup files. Each character profile in the Wizard is composed of 7 profile-specific files and one file (names.his) that is used by all profiles. If you name your profiles after your characters, then simply look for a batch of 7 files with your character's name and the file extensions of .dat, .color, .his, .sou, .nam, .mac, and .squ in the Simu/Wizard/DRealms folder.

Paste the contents of each file requested below in the appropriate window and click the "Convert!" button when finished. The tool will then construct the necessary data for Genie to use, and place the results in the windows at the bottom of the page. Each window is labeled with the name of a file which can be found in the same folder as where your Genie.exe is located. Open each of those files using Notepad (or any other text-editor, as long as it is set for plain text only, no RTF or HTML formats) and add to the the contents of the window.

Note: because of how Genie works, you can't set a sound string without also giving it a highlight color (no separate sounds list like the Wizard has) so this tool will assume you have the default Genie settings and give all sound strings the default color.

Next, Genie doesn't support multiple hotkey sets. This tool defaults to only importing hotkey set #1 or, if there is no set #1 defined, the first set located in the MAC file. The tool removes all \x codes because Genie macros bypas the command line, so a \x is unnecessary, Genie doesn't have one. The tool also changes all \r codes to a semicolon (;) except at the end of the line, because macros are automatically sent and a semicolon is used to separate comands.

Since Genie macros are auto-sent, macros using \? and @ won't function as you expect (no pause for input) and should be converted to aliases instead. In a later revision of this page I may consider adding an additional window at the bottom and an option to have the tool generate output for the Genie.aliases file.

Also, Genie requires NUMLOCK to be on for numpad hotkeys to function properly, which means shift-numpad combinations aren't available, so any shift-numpad combos in your Wizard settings will be transferred (so they're handy for copying over to new keys) but won't actually function if you try to use them.

Finally, Genie doesn't yet support background colors for text highlights. If you use them in the Wizard, then I suggest you rearrange your color setups before converting. Otherwise, you may end up doing so after the conversion, as this tool will simply ignore any background color settings and use only foreground colors.

Warning! I have not yet built significant error-checking into this page so make sure you paste the right files to the right windows and paste the WHOLE contents of each file (no partial lines). Failing to do so will likely result in corrupted outputand I have no idea what that might do to your Genie settings. I recommend before you do anything, make a backup copy of each of the four Genie settings files that this tool generates data for (Genie.highlight, Genie.macros, Genie.names, Genie.variables), just in case.
